Ballet--Extra Credit

This is a piece titled Ballet by Henry Leutwyler. It was recently featured in the Foley Gallery in NYC. When I look at this picture I immediately connect it to my past as a gymnast, dancer, and participant in winterguard. Upon deeper inspection I came to realize that the foot on the left is the one people want, the one little girls dream of having, versus the foot on the right is the ugly foot no one wants but is the only foot capable of becoming the left foot. That person that has dedicated their life to dancing and fighting each of the battles coming their way has the ability to become a beautiful ballerina. It takes time and work but what in this life doesn't? If you are truly wanting to become something beautiful, you must be willing to go through the bad and hard times in order to finally reach the beauty of achieving your dreams. The contrast between reality and what we want to see in this picture is amazing. We all want to see the left foot, pretty, pink and perfect, yet the right foot is the realism behind the left, the ugly, bloody, torn foot is the only one that can truly become beautiful.
